New SB drinks location

We’ll be choosing a new location for ongoing Silicon Beach drinks here in Melbourne. Melbourne has no shortage whatsoever of great places to catch up, we’ll keep you posted.
Venues that line our people up out the front in the cold when the place is empty don’t show up on our radar. Sad practice, really.

The first Melbourne Silicon Beach drinks took off like a mentos in a bottle of diet coke. Thanks to everyone for making it happen. A dozen or so turned out to cogitate about anything from outsourcing your life to Ukraine, to placing advertising on people who spend a lot of time sitting on the sidewalk, to setting up server slices. According to one stranger who happened to get sucked into our conversation, one of us had the gift that if he wanted, “he could sell shit on a stick”. We’ll let you guess who that is. (Hint: he’s in the above photo).

First Melbourne Silicon Beach Drinks
November 6, 2008 5:33 pmTonight (7th November) will be the first of a regular Friday night after work drinks for people interested in the tech and new media scene in Melbourne. It will be held at the Carlton Hotel in the CBD at 193 Bourke St.
We’ll be starting out on a fortnightly pattern with plans on getting to weekly ASAP.
It takes the community to make events like this successful, so help spread the word. The value to people will hopefully be
- inspiration
- collaboration
- encouragement
- just generally meet people doing interesting things in this space
