The Hive is an entrepreneurial meetup (based in Melbourne, but also in Brisbane and Sydney) that features a local entrepreneur each month. They are often from the Silicon Beach world and well worth checking out. The next event in July will shine the spotlight on RedBubble.com as co-founder Peter Styles shares his experience growing the site and community to where it is today.
The event will be held at the Order of Melbourne on the 14th of July. There should be a podcast available on the site soon afterwards if you can’t make it. For more details visit www.thehive.org.au

Drinks postponed until further notice
April 21, 2009 10:26 pmHi Beachers, we’re going to be taking a break from Silicon Beach drinks indefinitely to regroup. Rest assured the vision is still there. The drinks had yet to reach critical mass where absence of key people wouldn’t be an issue. Melbourne has more than enough talent and interest to keep a community like this alive. We’ll be making an announcement, and when we do, you’ll be the first to hear about it 
In the meantime, sign up to the Silicon Beach google groups forum at http://groups.google.com/group/silicon-beach-australia (you don’t need to be a google acccount holder to send and recieve via email, just to post on the web)

The need to iterate has come. New venue from next drinks onwards will be Cho Gao, Level 3 Melbourne Central, Take the escalator on corner of Swanston and Latrobe. We’ll try and coalesce on the balcony outside with the great view of the State Library of Victoria.
Next Silicon Beach Drinks Friday 6th Febuary 5pm.

We’re back at it this Friday 6th Feb at Trunk after a short break over the Australia day weekend. Its a good opportunity to find out what new things people are up to heading into 2009.
While everyone else decides to feel sorry for themselves and the state of the global economy over the foreseeable half a decade, a few people will recognise the massive opportunities for new businesses creating real, sustainable value (the antithesis of the complex financial engineering and Wool Over The Eyes Incorporateds of late).
Its out there, and we can help each other create the enabling environment that we need here in Melbourne to make it happen. Come out of your garage or office, bring your like-minded friends, and get some fresh air.
